VSY Biotechnology CEO Özge Altunbaş Göktekin stated that extraordinary developments observed recently in science and communication technologies have caused a transformation in the management approaches adopted by companies and added: “With technological advances transforming management ideas and approaches in enterprises, managers and employees now feel obliged to adopt a proactive, creative, and responsible role in their organization.”
We addressed our questions to VSY Biotechnology CEO Özge Altunbaş Göktekin about changing management approaches.
What is the current management approach adopted by enterprises?
Recently, the organizational structure and workforce modeling of enterprises have become more diversified and complex with the advent of extraordinary developments in science and communication technology, such as the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, the generation and integration of artificial intelligence, globalism, and sustainability efforts. While these developments are causing changes in the management ideas and approaches of enterprises, they also make it necessary for the managers and employees to adopt a proactive, creative, and responsible role. This new management approach, called “governance,” brings the unidirectional communication method employed by the traditional management approach to an interactive dimension and is readily embraced by enterprises as a participatory multi-actor management method that provides more freedom to individuals while imposing certain responsibilities on them.
“INNOVATIVE AND CREATIVE MANAGEMENT APPROACHES HAVE BECOME POPULAR WORLDWIDE”
How did global competition cause the birth of the governance model?
Obviously, global competition was as influential as technological and scientific changes and developments in the popularization of the governance approach. Apart from the workforces, raw materials, and energy costs related to production, the price/quality parameter and “innovative” elements now play a significant role in competition. While these factors increase the costs, they reduce profit margins considerably. This naturally results in fierce competition in the international markets, while other factors, such as efficiency, speed, and use of experts and advanced technology, play an inevitable role in the sustainable growth of companies. Additionally, to use these factors perfectly and efficiently, the classical management approach based on hierarchy and normal manager-thinking processes is slowly being abandoned in favor of a multi-voiced, innovative, and creative governance approach using predominantly shared wisdom.
VSY BIOTECHNOLOGY USES A MULTI-VOICED CORRELATIVE BUSINESS MODEL BASED ON SHARED RESPONSIBILITY AND AWARENESS OF COMPETENCE
Which roles in the organization are taken by the managers and employees in support of the governance approach?
In the governance approach, managers and employees integrate efficient, creative, and innovative practices into the management of the company. For this purpose, employees and managers are trained to enhance their performance levels, notice any opportunities for innovation and creativity in their daily activities, and develop new tactics and strategies to cope with the current developments. To adapt their work systems to this new economic world, enterprises and their managers and employees have to adopt a governance approach whose backbone is composed of methods and practices involving training, cultural activities, and science.

VSY Biotechnology is totally committed to the governance approach. VSY Biotechnology has created a participatory common structure available to all of our stakeholders.
